These jewelry pieces are made of anodized aluminum that I hand dye. The colors are permanent, the metal hard and lightweight, and each design is entirely my own. Well, none of this is true! Cora would have loved to have had the time, but mending, preserving, and childrearing took precedence over leisurely hobbies. Nor did women ever sew by firelight--there was just not enough light! They normally had to sew from May to October by outdoor evening light after chores were done. And, feed sacks didn't come in pretty patterns till 1925, and by then Cora had electricity! It wasn't until her daughter, my Aunt Elsie, retired that a member of my family had time to quilt. And, quilt she did. Each of her children got a special quilt she made just for them. Mine (I am her 'other' daughter) is fuchsia and black and white. I am a baby boomer with no time to sit and sew, BUT I do have scraps of my dyed aluminum just waiting for the opportunity to become something of value! So, these one-of-a-kind quilt pin sets are my rendition of simple quilts. It's probably as close to creating a quilt that I will ever come. I dedicate them to my women-folk.
